Dating back to 1775, this cottage has seen the passage of time and events more than most. I met the present owner who informed me that the fore section of the cottage in the picture had once been a shop in the 1960's. I can imagine local children buying penny toffee's and maybe fizzy lemonade. I drew the scene before me very quickly because I wanted to catch the tide out and the family atmosphere of enjoyment on the beach. The main draw was of course the light. The sharp contrasting colours of light shining across the wet beach. I was very keen to capture the glint in the sand and on the sea and unusually I have used a mixture of silver card and acrylic paint. This is my biggest project so far. It took me over 259 hours and was a delight to achieve. Palmers Brewery is an icon building from the late 18th century and sits on the River Brit to be viewed by all walkers who take the walk to West Bay along the river and across the fields. I created this picture of Bat's Head not far from Durdle Door. Perhaps its notoriety has been over shone by the more famous sea cliff, but the view is as beautiful. I am drawn by the great texture, colour and depth of field and the terrain is always an achievement for walkers.
